While George Dickel is currently the second-largest distillery in Tennessee, at one time, the George Dickel brand was the largest Tennessee Whisky when it was owned by Victor Emmanuel “Manny” Shwab, who was born and raised as a Jew. To shed some light on this history, the 169th episode of The Jewish Drinking Show features one of his great-grandsons, Clay Shwab.

Biography of Guest
Clay Shwab taught business management, senior thesis, and management in literature at Maryville College for 10 years after a business career at Whittle Communications, Snyder Communications, and Edison Schools. The great-grandson of V.E. "Manny" Shwab, Clay is the author of Manny Shwab and the George Dickel Company: Whisky, Power and Politics During Nashville's Gilded Age. He lives in Maryville, Tennessee.
